What to expect

During your work experience placement, you'll be immersed in life at a real tech company. You'll work on hands-on projects using industry tools, meet professionals in different tech roles, and learn about their career journeys. You'll develop valuable skills through team challenges, join actual company meetings, and get a true insight into what it's like to work in tech. By the end of the week, you'll have a much clearer picture of the many exciting career paths available in the industry.

Who can apply

Most of our work experience placements are open to girls and young women in years 10-13 (aged 14-18) who are curious about careers in technology. While specific requirements may vary between companies, you usually don't need any previous tech experience or coding skills - just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn! We particularly encourage applications from students who haven't had much exposure to the tech industry through family or friends.

Key details

Placements usually run for five days during school term time, Monday to Friday from around 10am to 4pm. You'll spend your time at the company's office where their friendly team will support you throughout the week. Most placements are in city centres, so you'll need to be able to commute to the office each day. Many host companies will sort out lunch for you, but you'll typically need to cover your travel costs - we'll let you know in advance of the placement so you know what to expect.
